Palmer amaranth is a newer invasive pigweed species with several local infestations known in the Agtegra service territory. Palmer amaranth is an extremely aggressive weed species which has the capability of enormous seed production and rapid expansion. The plant is also a very aggressive and tall species capable of competing with crops very effectively. The key to controlling infestations of this weedy pigweed are to immediately identify and control the infestation when the patch is small, using traditional effective weed management programs plus spot weed control or even hand rogueing to remove the plants before seed production, harvest or weed spread.
