Prevent Plant Program #1: Glyphosate and PPO and Phenoxy, Short Residual 1) RT3 or Roundup PowerMax 32.0 oz/a 2) Aim or Sharpen 1.0 oz/a 3) Sterling Blue 4.0 oz/a 4) Exuro or FireZone 10.0-12.0 oz/a • Sharpen provides some short residual, whereas Aim provides essentially no residual control Prevent Plant Program #2: Gramoxone- Based Programs, Short Residual 1) Gramoxone SL 2.0 (3-4 pt/a) 2) 0.25 % V/V NIS or 1% V/V COC or 0.5% HSOC 3) For improved kochia and tough broadleaf or perennial broadleaf control: a) Sterling Blue (4-8 oz/a) or LV-6 (4-8 oz/a) can be added for improved control (avoid 2,4-D amine as it will reduce grass control) 4) If cover crops or winter wheat are NOT planned for 2019: atrazine 0.25-0.5 lb/a or metribuzin (4-6 oz/a) will significantly improve overall weed control with Gramoxone. Prevent Plant Program for Planned Winter Wheat- Burndown + Longer Residual Valor SX at 3 oz/a may be added to any of the above mixes to provide extended residual control and still allow rotation to winter wheat Fall 2019. NOTES To prevent Fallow Syndrome: It may be desirable to plant a cover crop on prevent plant acres, rather than leaving the soil entirely black. As acres go unseeded in the region due to excessive rainfall and flooding, mycorrhiza fungi in the soil can decrease. Mycorrhiza (vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza or VAM) are a group of beneficial fungi found in most soils which need living plant roots to flourish. These fungi are especially important for grass crops like corn and wheat and help plants by increasing effective root surface area and soil exploration for nutrients. “Fallow syndrome” is primarily a phosphorus deficiency caused by a lack of these fungi. Additional phosphorus fertilizer for the following crop may be required to overcome the reduction in soil mycorrhiza.
