Assessment Improvements: Ready For Harvest

Sep 16, 2019

As the fall 2019 harvest gets underway, five Agtegra locations will have newly added capacity available for producers trucking their grain into the system. Andover, Bowdle, Highmore, Kennebec and Wolsey are the sites of new grain bin storage.

“We started working on these bin sites earlier this spring,” says Producer Marketing Manager Travis Antonsen. “Adding additional space will hopefully ease some of the season’s harvest pressure.”

Antonsen notes that the cooperative had originally planned a larger outlay of increased storage assets across the Agtegra trade territory, but the projects were downsized as spring weather challenges emerged. “We scaled back to about half of what we had originally planned on for additional storage, ” says Antonsen. “With Prevented Planting acres and other anticipated lower production numbers, board and management are holding off for now, but will build additional storage in the future, as finances allow.”

The international tariff issues have compounded storage problems across the country, notes Antonsen, especially for soybeans. But Agtegra will continue to proactively merchandise and manage grower’s grain. “We will be better off than last year, with continued improvements and more storage capacity,” says Antonsen. “We also have more segregation capabilities, to handle more commodities in a better manner.”
