Brody Miiller, a senior at Woonsocket High School, has accepted a Build Dakota scholarship sponsored in part by Agtegra Cooperative. Miiller plans to study agriculture with a precision technology option at Lake Area Tech next fall and has joined the Agtegra team as an agricultural technology intern for the spring and summer.
As an industry partner of the Build Dakota program, Agtegra will support a portion of Miiller’s educational expenses, while Build Dakota will cover the remainder. Following his graduation from Lake Area, Miiller will join the Agtegra team full time for a minimum of three years in addition to interning over the next two summers.
Before he signed on to Build Dakota, Miiller and his classmates were interviewed by individuals in their communities as part of a mock interview component of their English class. Agtegra Area Manager Jason White had the opportunity to interview Miiller in this setting, which is how he learned about Miiller’s interest in precision agriculture and studying at Lake Area Tech in the fall. Learning about Miiller from White’s experience with him, Agtegra Talent Management Lead McKenzie DuFresne knew she needed to interview Miiller for the Build Dakota scholarship program.
“One thing that really stuck out to me about Brody was how he knew he wanted to work for Agtegra even before earning the scholarship. To me, that really set him apart as a scholarship candidate,” said DuFresne.
After interviewing him, DuFresne offered Miiller the opportunity to sign with Agtegra as a Build Dakota scholar.
“I think it’s exciting to see kids who come from communities in our region say they want to study agriculture and that they want a career with Agtegra after graduation,” said DuFresne. “That says a lot about our locations and our employees.”
Miiller’s interest in ag technology stems from working for a local farmer.
“I began working for a local farmer a few years ago and knew that I wanted to be involved in the agriculture industry,” said Miiller. “He taught me a lot about the industry and the technology involved in it.”
As he finishes up his senior year of high school, Miiller has already started his internship with the cooperative, which will continue into the summer months. A few of his internship duties will range from data logging and utilizing the FieldReveal platform to working with drones. In fact, Miiller plans to obtain his drone license this summer.
